On the actual of parking day, our Go Garden team set up in the quad where a good flow of traffic would occasionally waft by. Our finished product was set up where people could easily move from station to station (pots, soil, seeds, water, recipes) and take their new little plant home with no hassle.
We observed as people walked by, their eyes glued to the display until one of us finally asked if they would like to grow their own garden at home. “Sure!” Was the usual excited response of students and faculty. One man even dropped by a second time to chat about his love for gardening and inform us about the variety of different plants that can be grown throughout San Francisco.
Other people who stopped by were ecstatic about the seeds and grabbed as many as they could!
One girl even encouraged our efforts, told us we had her full support then proceeded to take her potted plants and claimed she would plant them all around campus. With all these interactions, it's safe to say our parking day installation was a success. We started out with 100 biodegradable pots and we left with only 34. That means we were able to promote the growth of 64 new plants into this urban jungle and promote a healthier lifestyle.
